Granny Lessons is a blog started to help track the progress of a family cookbook I am currently writing. As I test recipes I will share that experience with family, friends and neighbors in South Alabama. Wade's loving it!
I am going to share old photos and try to pass along the family geneology information that I have now and updates and additions as they are discovered.
I hope to share some stories we love to tell in our family and those favorite stories of other families and friends in our community of Big Creek and Madrid, Alabama. My goal is to open a line of communication with all of you and you with each other. Their are some great stories to tell and I hope you all will join in and share some tales of those grands and great grands that our little guys and girls didn't get to know.
I was inspired to do this when I saw the movie Julie and Julia this past winter. Loved it. A friend of mine in California has been after me for years to write a blog so he could keep up with me. Well Randy here we go. Thanks for the encouragement. I'm off and running!!!
My paternal grandmother Luverne Sims Holland, died in April of 2004 and left me a big box of recipes and newspaper clippings she collected for decades. Most of these have been shared over and over for years with friends and family. Her family, church, home, cooking, sewing and gardening was the center of her world. She was the light of my life and I miss her every day. I'll tell you more about her later. I plan to share "Granny's" handwritten recipes as well as her newspaper clippings, and favorite stories.
I will also be shareing recipes, photos and videos from Mom's side of the family too. My maternal Grandmother, Lota Lee Lott Peacock was known to the entire community as "Momma Peacock". She was everyone's mother. She loved life. Anyone around her knew that, by the big smile she always wore, and the love everyone saw in her eyes. She passed away in April of 2008, and there's a big hole in my heart. I have recipes and pictures and videos of her family, the Lotts and my grandfather's family, The Peacocks. Hugh Dorsey Peacock known as "Daddy Peacock". Their families, were huge. The best times of my life were spent with all of them, fishing, riding bikes, running and climbing trees in the orange groves behind Uncle Damons house, and wading in the creek and catching tadpoles in the spring pond, oh yea and "snipe" hunting! The Lotts and the Peacocks are very colorful characters. They were always laughing and making the best of each and every day. Most everyone is living a long distance apart so I'm hoping this will bring us all closer together.
Well today was the first day and this is my first Post! Yea!! I feel like I have accomplished something!
Thanks for the encouragement and may peace be with you all. :)
