Left to Right
Becky, Butch, and Me
This picture of the three of us was taken in the living room of Momma Peacock's house. Momma still has the dress I am wearing. Aunt Bertha made it for me. They took me to L & J Studio Photography to have this picture made in the same dress. L & J was located on South Oates street next to "the hump", railroad overpass. We had a small volkswagen bug when the boys and I were little and Daddy would drive over the hump fast to tickle our tummies! We would squeel and he would make the block and do it again. I remember going to McDonalds for the first time in the bug, guess this was about 1963. McDonalds was new to Dothan on Main Street, across from Sears. We loved it of course. But I still liked Nip and Ernie's Hot Dogs.
Nip and Ernies was a diner and soda fountain close to Dothan High School, where we went to eat hotdogs and hamburgers occasionally. I have tried to make Ernie's hotdog chili for years. I still don't have it just right. Momma makes it better than I do. I watched her the last time she made hotdog chili to see what she did.I think I can do it now and write a recipe for it. I am going to try and will pass it on to you.
My freind Elizabeth is here to visit this weekend and we are going to Destin Commons and down to the beach for a long walk later.... if it's warm enough right now it's very cold. I'm glad she's here. We haven't been together in a long time. We have been best friends since we were in the fifth grade........which was almost half a century ago!
